Select Artwork from Allison Nicole Rabin, Circa 2001-2003

This drawing of a wild male tiger by Allison emphasizes the alert and panicked state of endangered species. The strong red stripes contrast the subtle yellow markings to bring about awareness of the red tiger's plight. The highly camouflaged face hides the frightened stare that permeates the feline's body, while the extended claws show the determination to stay and fight. The compressed alert tail signals a mix of angst and power on the verge of being unleashed, yet the large cat seems to be cornered with nowhere to escape.
This dark-haired ballerina dances her way across the hollow void that represents her empty stomach. The smile is a facade meant to please the judgmental onlookers who hold her self-worth in their rationed out applause. The contrast between blissful happiness with the hidden sadness and self-loathing encourages one to explore how strangers hold such a powerful grip on the unconscious.
On this happy Spring day, the sun is perched in the corner of the sky, encouraging the eager sunflowers to reach and stretch toward the heavens. However, one can't dismiss the jealousy that wells up in the less virulent sunflowers who hopelessly strain to touch the rainbow, blind to the power of the illusion. The fruitless pursuit of the rainbow underpins the deeper meaning of the piece, posing the question, "Why do we toil toward unrealistic goals, inevitably failing to reach them?"
